Rare Early Photographs Of Marilyn Monroe

These early photographs of Marilyn Monroe were taken in 1950 by photographer Ed Clark. After the shoot in Griffith Park in LA, Marilyn went on to become one of the worlds most celebrated sex symbols, and the prints went on to be lost in the Life Magazine archives for the next 60 years.

The negatives for the revelatory images seen here were discovered during the years-long effort to digitize LIFE’s immense, storied photo archive — an archive that includes outtakes and entire photo shoots that, for reasons as varied as the subjects they covered, were never published.
