In the summer of 1947 a group of American designers visited England, Czechoslovakia and Poland to evaluate the progress of post-war reconstruction. The photos are from their visit in August of 1947 to view the progress in Warsaw.
Around half a million people lived in Warsaw at the time. It seems impossible judging by the pictures, but a census carried out in 1945 showed 422 000 inhabitants (in comparison to estimated 1.3 million in 1939 and only one thousand after the 1944 uprising) Warsaw had more Second World War casualties than USA and UK combined.
