The photos below compare scenes in East Germany before unification in the early 1990s, and then the same scenes 10 years later. Taken by photographer Stefan Koppelkamm during two trips to the ex-Communist state.
The two things that stand out are just how little the buildings had changed from the war, and then the rate of progress and investment flowing into the country afterwards.
